Assumptions of the model

Prices known in advance (perfect foresight); energy bought and sold at the same RCE, without the consumption or PV profile; no supplier margin, distribution fees, taxes, VAT or excise, degradation, capital cost, self-consumption or auxiliary losses. The battery starts and ends every day empty; days with missing data are excluded, not counted as zero; the current month is not extrapolated. Not a bill saving, profit or payback. Algorithm 2.0.1.

Average RCE vs RCEm [PLN/MWh]

RCEm and the average RCE month by month.

RCE average RCEm

What this means for a prosumer →

Prosumer: RCEm or RCE?

Prosumers who started generating before 1 July 2024 and stayed on monthly settlement are paid RCEm. Everyone else is settled at RCE for every quarter-hour. PV produces most at midday, when RCE is lowest and often negative — so the real price of energy sold from PV is usually below the monthly average.

How to read the difference between the RCE average and RCEm

RCEm is the monthly average of RCE weighted by the hours of PV generation. A positive difference (RCE average minus RCEm) means PV energy was worth less than an average hour of the month. The bigger the difference, the more it pays to use the energy on site or to store it — instead of selling it at noon.

Methodology

Definitions: spread, negative hours, DST

Storage spread of a day = average of the 8 most expensive minus the 8 cheapest quarter-hours (2 h + 2 h) — descriptive, without chronology, not the simulator margin. Negative hours = sum of the durations of quarter-hours with a price below zero. Averages are weighted by time. A day has 96 periods, the spring DST day 92 and the autumn DST day 100 (both 02:xx hours with different UTC offsets); a day with any missing period is excluded, never filled.

Frequently asked questions

What is RCE?

The market price of electricity published by PSE for every 15-minute period of the day. PSE publishes tomorrow's prices around 14:00. Since July 2024 RCE settles net-billing prosumers in Poland.

Why is the electricity price sometimes negative?

When supply exceeds demand in sunny, windy hours, generators pay to have their energy taken. In 2026 negative prices occur mostly on weekends and holidays between 10:00 and 16:00.

What does the battery simulator show?

A model RCE margin on known prices, before fees and storage costs: a chronological charge and discharge schedule with the battery energy balance, on RCE prices from the last 13 months. It is not a bill saving, profit or payback — no supplier margin, distribution, taxes, degradation or storage cost.

How does RCEm differ from RCE?

RCEm is the monthly price for prosumers who stayed on monthly settlement; RCE is the price of each quarter-hour. When PV output falls in low-price hours, the real value of PV energy can be lower than the monthly average.

Can I download the data?

Yes. The data on this page is available as JSON and CSV (semicolon separator, decimal comma) at /dane/rce.json and /dane/rce.csv. Source: PSE S.A., public sector information.
